1839 Forage cap – wheel hat

The 1839 forage cap or wheel hat, saw service from late 1839 up to the mid 1840’s. Made of dark blue wool, it features a vertical visor, tall headband and a stiff reed welting around the crown, an ear flap attached to the headband and held in place by the chin strap button and ribbon of cotton or silk.
Branch of service trim (colored band) may be added for additional cost, the trim is applied to the hat making it removable.
Officers version also available with polish cotton lining. See hat chooses below.
